LiUNA has one of the best continuing FREE education systems in the world. Our training meets or exceeds OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards. Local 169 offers dozens of courses free to members that provide them with valuable skills. Classes are available in every state in the U.S. and every province in Canada.
A Culture of Safety
Members are provided with training in order to recognize potential hazards and are empowered to speak up or take action to fix it. Union contractors were 20 percent more likely to engage in prevention through design practices. Almost 80 percent of union contractors said they conduct hazard analysis before projects begin; only 56 percent of non-union contractors said the same. This resulted in fewer fatalities when compared with non-union populations. A one percent decline in unionization results in about a five percent increase in the rate of occupational fatalities.
