Members of Laborers’ Union Local 169 demonstrated near Reno’s Apple store at The Summit on July 30, 2013 “to protest against … the secrecy behind the $89-million tax break that lured Apple to build a data center east of Sparks.”
“We’re paying them to take us out on a date using our own money,” said Skip Daly, the Business manager of Local 169.
Daly said the demonstration also was sparked by out-of-state contractors working on the project. “To construct the Washoe server farm, Apple hired M.A. Mortenson, an out-of-state carpetbagger who has virtually no local workers,” Daly said.
