Our friend and Brother Jose “Tony” Mayorga passed away on 2/19/2018. Tony joined the Union in November of 1978 and was a member in good standing the entire time from then until now. Tony was very proud of the fact that he never went suspended.

There will be a Celebration of Tony’s Life on March 10 at 3pm. The Celebration will be held at Walton’s Funerals, 1745 Sullivan Lane, Sparks.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Domestic Violence Resource Center (formerly CAAW), 1735 Vassar Street, Reno.

As many of you may know, Tony spent 18 plus years working in the field as a laborer doing primarily paving work but performed other types of labor work before being hired by the Training Trust Fund as an instructor in January of 1997. Tony was elected President of Local 169 in June of 1999 and called his first meeting to order as President in July of that year.

Tony held the Training Instructor position for 19 years and served the membership as President for close to 16 years until he retired in April of 2015.

Tony was a tireless, strong and proud member of Local 169. He was a good friend to everyone that knew him.

Tony provided leadership and his own kind of wisdom to the Union as President and to many of our members in his roles as an Instructor for the Training Program. We will all miss him very much.

On behalf of the members of Laborers Union Local 169, I extend our deepest sympathy to Brother Jose “Tony” Mayorga’s family.
